Many people just don’t have time to go to the gym sometimes. Luckily, you can have both your clean home and your workout, why not follow our guide on turning these cleaning jobs into exercise:
If you’re going to hoover, you might as well get a workout, too. To do this, do a full lunge while moving the hoover forward, and bring your feet back together when you pull the hoover towards you. Lunges can increase your lower body strength, including your quadriceps, hamstrings and glutes.
A great way to get in shape whilst cleaning your bathroom. Not only will you get rid of germs but scrubbing down the bathroom can help you burn 256 calories per hour! The bathroom has many elements to scrub – baths, showers, sinks, toilets, mirrors, counters, floors, etc. – meaning there is a lot of opportunity to work your muscles.
It may seem easy to bend down to take dishes out or to put dirty dishes in the dishwasher, but it can also put a strain on your back and neck. Instead, try doing a squat every time you need to reach down. If you don’t know how to squat correctly, there are many resources online that can help. Not only will this save you from the back pain, but squats can burn fat, improve flexibility and increase leg, glute and abdominal strength.
Gardening is compared to “moderate cardiovascular exercise,” meaning you can get in shape by weeding, digging, raking and planting. Gardening can work all the major muscle groups: legs, buttocks, arms, shoulders, neck, back and abdomen, while improving flexibility and acting as a great stress reliever. To increase this workout, take a break from gardening and run around the outside of your house a few times or take the dog for a walk. These are all great ways to work on your to-do list, get some exercise and take advantage of nicer weather!
Please be sure to check with your doctor before partaking in physical activity.
