How to Maintain a Clean Bedroom | Haus Maids Winchester
Our bedrooms are our sanctuaries from the chaos of modern life. However, a cluttered, disorganised bedroom can make even the most laid-back person feel stressed.
Unkept living spaces are overstimulating and potentially full of health hazards. That isn’t what you want from the place where you sleep — especially considering that the National Bed Federations found Brits spend about 27 years in bed during their lifetime.
So, how do you keep your room tidy? Our house cleaners in Winchester have shared four top tips for maintaining a clean bedroom below...
1. Make your bed daily (and wash your sheets weekly!)
Making your bed is a seemingly small task that often doesn’t feel worth it when you’re rushing out the door. But taking a few minutes to neaten your sheets and prepare your bed for later can help get you in the right headspace to maintain a clean bedroom.
It’s also important to wash your bedding regularly — more regularly than you might think, in fact. The Sleep Foundation recommends cleaning your sheets every week. If you have pets that sleep in your bed, make that every three to four days!
And here’s a bonus tip: let some sunlight in. UV rays are a natural disinfectant, helping kill the bacteria that’s lurking on your bedding. So, before you make your bed every day, leave the covers off for an hour or so whilst you have breakfast to help eliminate germs on your bottom sheet.
2. Don’t let clothes pile up
For most people, it’s clothes that create bedroom clutter. It’s all too easy to dump clean laundry on a chair or leave jumpers and socks strewn across the floor, but this only makes your bedroom look messier.
To make it easier for you to make it a habit to put things away, rethink your bedroom organisation system. Do you need additional, more accessible clothes storage? Does everything have a place? Is there anything you could get rid of to free up more space?
Once you’ve tackled this job, you can then create (and stick to) a laundry schedule that makes the job of cleaning, drying and putting away your clothes less overwhelming.
3. Deep clean your floors
A clean floor can do wonders for the overall appearance and hygiene of your bedroom.
You can deep clean your floors a little less frequently than your other cleaning jobs — perhaps once a month. However, to ensure you keep a clean bedroom, try to give it a sweep or hoover weekly. Then, when it’s time to do a deeper clean, ensure you follow the best practices for the type of flooring you have.
For example, if you have hardwood floors, you should wet mop with a purpose-made spray or floor cleaning liquid and buff out scuffs with a sock or tennis ball. For carpets, our Winchester home cleaning experts suggest using a pre-treatment to lift stains and a steam cleaner to get deeper into carpet fibres.
Whilst you’re at it, why not sweep or hoover the ceiling, too? This is a great way to keep on top of spiderwebs and dust; just remember to do it before you clean your bedroom floor to avoid undoing all your hard work.
4. Hire a professional cleaner
Like any house cleaning task, maintaining a clean bedroom can be time-consuming and stressful for people with busy lives. If this sounds familiar, why not hand it over to the professionals?
Our award-winning domestic cleaners are here to help. They’ll tick off everything on your home cleaning checklist without you having to lift a finger, giving you peace of mind that your sanctuary is shipshape and allowing you to reclaim some free time.
