How to Clean Your Dishwasher | Haus Maids Milton Keynes

Your dishwasher cleans your dishes. But what’s cleaning your dishwasher?

Keeping up with dishwasher maintenance can help your machine last longer, reduce bad smells and improve cleaning results. So, our house cleaners in Milton Keynes have shared a step-by-step on how to clean your dishwasher like a pro. Here goes…

1. Remove all racks and holders

First and foremost, take out any removable dishwasher components. This usually includes the racks and any utensil holders. You can give these a scrub down in the sink and leave them to dry whilst you tackle the inside.

2. Wipe all surfaces

Now, you should have access to the whole machine. Get rid of any residual food. Dip a cloth in some diluted white vinegar and use it to tackle the seals, buttons and door interiors. Pay special attention to any wells and gaps that might have gathered gunk.

3. Clean the filters

Check whether your dishwasher has a removable filter and take it out if so. Rinse it under some warm water to dislodge any old food and debris. Use a soft brush to get rid of anything that won’t come loose with water alone.

4. Run a cycle with vinegar

Here’s our top tip for how to clean your dishwasher: do a vinegar cleanse! Replace all your racks and dishwasher components. Then, simply put a cup of white vinegar in a dishwasher-safe container or jug and place it on the top shelf. Run a regular hot water cycle to flush it through your machine.

When that’s finished, you should be able to easily wipe away any remaining grease using a cloth or sponge.

5. Add some baking soda

Want to give your dishwasher some proper TLC? Sprinkle some baking soda (about a cup will do) across the bottom. Run another hot cycle so the baking soda can get rid of bad smells and give you a shiny finish.

We don’t recommend doing this more than once a month. However, you could add a smaller amount (around a tablespoon) about once a week to help prevent grease buildup.

6. Air out and polish

You’re almost done. Once the last cycle is finished, leave the door propped slightly open for a bit to let moisture escape and speed up the drying process. Then, just give the outside of your machine with your vinegar and water solution to finish things off.
