House Cleaning Advice: Tips for Cleaning Fridges in Fleet Homes
When was the last time you cleaned your fridge? And we mean really cleaned it, not just gave it a quick wipe down?
If the answer is longer ago than you’d like to admit, don’t worry — we aren’t here to judge. We’re here to offer house cleaning advice from our Fleet home cleaning experts to help you nail this job the next time you want to deep-clean your kitchen!
Read on to discover six simple tips for maintaining a clean and healthy fridge, inside and out.
1. Start with an empty fridge
If you want to clean your fridge thoroughly, you need to take everything out before you get started. That way, you can remove all the components and ensure no old food or condiments are lurking in the back.
As such, it makes sense to give your fridge a clean before you do your weekly food shop — leaving yourself more space to get reorganised when you fill it back up.
2. Use a natural cleaning solution
One of our favourite pieces of house cleaning advice is to make use of the ingredients in your cupboards to create natural, non-chemical cleaning solutions.
Use a mixture of white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to remove stains and odours, adding a few drops of lemon juice if you’d like to leave a fresher smell.
3. Clean the door seals
You need to keep the rubber gasket around your fridge door clean to ensure the seal remains tight. Use warm water, dish soap and a cloth to wipe away dirt, and use a bleach solution to remove any mould you find.
If you struggle to clean the seal using just your fingers and a cloth, try using a purpose-made tool that you can find online.
4. Wash doors and shelves
Many modern fridges have multiple door drawers, trays and shelves that can be removed for deep cleaning.
Take them all out and then soak them in a bowl of warm soapy water to get rid of any sticky residue, mould or stains. If your fridge has any glass components, make sure you let them warm to room temperature before exposing them to hot water, as this might make them crack!
5. Wipe the outside of the fridge
A shiny and clean fridge exterior can help make your kitchen look extra nice. It’s also important to remove any bacteria that might be lurking on the fridge surface or in and around door handles.
So, using a mixture of vinegar and water on a microfibre cloth, wipe down the entire outside of your fridge and then polish it with a dry towel to maintain a streak-free, fingerprint-free finish.
6. Organise as you restock
Now that your fridge is sparkling clean and hygienic, it’s time to add your food, drinks and condiments again.
Try using clear plastic bins to store similar items together, and remember to place raw meat on the bottom shelf to avoid cross-contamination.
