Haus Maids Alton: 3 Cupboard Ingredients That Help You Clean
Last-minute visitors? Cleaning emergency? Just can’t be bothered to run to the shops?
We’ve got you covered. Haus Maids Alton has plenty of cleaning tips and tricks to share, including how to use kitchen items to keep your home hygienic.
Keep reading to discover the three key ingredients that can help you tackle almost any mess at home. Plus, we’ll highlight some use cases that might be useful in a pinch…
Item 1: Baking soda
There are loads of different ways to use baking soda, or bicarbonate of soda, in your cleaning routine. Don’t confuse it with baking powder — it won’t work as efficiently.
Bicarbonate of soda is gentle, non-toxic and doesn’t leave a smell. You probably also have it in your cupboard already, making it a fantastic DIY solution. It will work on almost every surface, including painted skirting boards and wood flooring. You can even use it on your fabrics and carpets to remove stains and smells.
Our Alton home cleaning experts usually recommend combining baking soda with warm water. Apply it as a paste or a thinner mix with a cloth or brush. For carpets and upholstery, sprinkle it over the area and vacuum it away after about 15 minutes.
Item 2: White vinegar
The Haus Maids Alton team couldn’t leave white vinegar out of this list. With this and baking soda, you can tackle pretty much any cleaning mishap! It’s a non-toxic solution that’s safe to use around the house, even if you have pets and children.
White vinegar is great for cleaning glass and mirrors, bathrooms, faucets and other fixtures. Our favourite cleaning tip? Add it to your washing machine instead of fabric softener to make your clothes feel soft. Or, add a larger amount in an empty wash to clean the machine itself. Just be careful not to do this too much; the mild acidity of the vinegar might damage components over time.
We also don’t recommend using white vinegar on anything with a wooden or waxed surface. Avoid stone, too. But for most other deep cleaning tasks, white vinegar is a wonderful ingredient to use.
Item 3: Lemons
When life gives you lemons, turn them into cleaning gold! At Haus Maids Alton, we’re all about sustainable house cleaning. Lemons are a great way to achieve this.
Again, lemons are a fabulously multi-purpose, non-harmful cleaning ingredient. Put a few in your dishwasher or microwave to disinfect and release a pleasant citrus smell. Rub them over your chopping board to freshen it up without chemicals. Or, mix lemon juice with dishwashing soap to soak pots and pans with dried-in grease stains.
There you have it! With just a handful of items you probably already have lying around, you can deal with almost any cleaning emergency.
