Cleaning 101: How to Get Rid of Cobwebs in Your Ware Home

Love them or hate them, spiders are residents in every household. Even if you don’t mind sharing your living spaces with these eight-legged arachnids, their cobwebs can become a real nuisance when you’re trying to keep a clean and tidy house.

Are you tired of constantly clearing cobwebs from ceiling corners and furniture? Keep reading to learn how to get rid of cobwebs for good.

Tip 1: Get the vacuum out

The first and easiest method to try when you want to get rid of cobwebs is to vacuum them up. This is an effective way of removing webs in hard-to-reach areas like ceilings and behind furniture without having to get up close and personal with them. Plus, it’ll also ensure you’re catching the spider and any eggs it might have laid.

Make sure you’re using the soft brush attachment on your hoover to ensure you don’t scratch anything as you go over different surfaces.

Tip 2: Use a DIY cobweb remover

Don’t have a duster? Don’t worry — many common feather dusters end up spreading dust around rather than catching it.

Instead, you can grab an old sock and attach it to the end of a mop or broom to act as a DIY cobweb removal tool. Dampen the sock (or soft microfibre cloth, if you’d prefer) by spraying it with water and then gently swipe it over the area where you’re trying to get rid of cobwebs.

Tip 3: Make a vinegar spray

Did you know that spiders hate vinegar? That makes it a great solution for removing cobwebs and deterring spiders from making a home in yours.

Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray it on areas where you usually get a lot of cobwebs — typically ceiling corners, windowsills and doorways. Not only will the vinegar help dissolve existing webs, but the strong smell of vinegar will also repel any spiders thinking of setting up camp.

Tip 4: Keep spiders at bay

The best way to get rid of cobwebs is to prevent spiders from entering your home as much as possible. Here are a few things you can try:

  • Mix water and peppermint oil or tea tree oil and spray it in areas where spiders typically gather.
  • Ensure you have a regular dusting routine that focuses on usually undisturbed areas where spiders might like to live.
  • Seal cracks and gaps around windows and doors where spiders can enter your home.
  • Maintain the outsides of your house, such as by sweeping porches, trimming trees and cleaning garages, to limit the opportunities for spiders to get into your house.
