Still, if you’d rather give it a go yourself, here’s the weekly cleaning routine you should follow…

Daily cleaning routine tasks

  • Make your bed. It’s a small thing and only takes a moment, but you’ll be surprised how much of a difference it makes to your mood.
  • Keep on top of the dishes. Dirty plates and kitchen equipment can quickly pile up. It’s best to wash them little and often to avoid bad smells and bacteria multiplying in your living spaces.
  • Vacuum or sweep high-traffic areas. This is especially important if you have pets and when the weather is bad. Again, little and often is the way to go!
  • Wipe down counters and surfaces. Keep a clean microfibre cloth and spray on hand to keep tables and countertops free from dust, dirt and the residue left by sticky fingers.
  • Empty the bins. You might not need to do this every day, but it’s a good idea to make a habit of checking your bins every couple of days to ensure nothing is left to fester or overflow.

Weekly cleaning routine tasks

  • Wash your bins. Once you’ve emptied your indoor bins, use some bleach and water to get rid of any juices that might attract pests and create bad smells.
  • Wipe down sinks, mirrors, switches and faucets. Use an appropriate cleaning spray and a cloth to remove excess moisture, marks, mould and other bacteria from damp areas and touchpoints.
  • Clean your children’s toys. Throw any soft toys in the washing machine and disinfect any hard toys with a spray and cloth to get rid of some of the bacteria they carry.
  • Scrub toilets, baths and showers. Giving these areas a thorough clean every week will prevent staining and mould growth.
  • Change your sheets. You should do this once if not twice a week to maintain a clean and fresh sleeping environment. Don’t forget to vacuum your mattress whilst you’re at it! Take a look at your soft furnishings, too, to see if they need any sprucing up.
  • Mop or steam-clean floors. Finish by cleaning the floors throughout your home to get rid of any dirt and prevent stains from setting in. Then, you can put your feet up whilst they dry!
