Top Tips for Cleaning a Microwave | Haus Maids Winchester 

Cleaning a microwave isn’t the most enjoyable household chore. However, with just a few tips (and a little elbow grease), your microwave can be as good as new! 

Our house cleaners in Winchester have shared a few different methods you can try. Let’s dive in… 

Method 1: Steam cleaning 

If your microwave needs a general deep clean, steam cleaning is an easy and effective method.  

Simply fill a microwave-safe bowl with some water and a dash of white vinegar and pop it inside. Set your microwave to high and leave it to run for about five minutes — at least as long as you need to get some steam. Leave the door shut for a few minutes. When you open it, you should be able to easily wipe away surface stains with a damp cloth.  

Here’s a bonus tip for cleaning a microwave: add the juice and body of half a lemon into your water bowl. This will make it smell extra fresh! 

Method 2: Baking soda 

Baking soda is a great ingredient for cleaning a microwave. Its mildly abrasive nature means it’s tough on dirt, grease and stains without scratching your appliances.  

To make a cleaning paste, mix a couple of tablespoons of baking soda with a little water — just enough to get the right consistency. Apply it to any areas of your microwave that have stubborn, dried-in stains. After about 10 minutes, use a damp sponge to scrub it away. Wipe away any leftover residue with warm water on a microfibre cloth. 

Method 3: Washing up liquid 

Regular dish soap and water can do the trick for everyday microwave cleaning. The steps are very similar to method one: fill a microwave-safe bowl with water, add a few drops of soap, and then run the microwave for about two minutes. When it’s done, you should be able to wipe out the inside of your machine with the soapy water for sparkling results.
