Summer Home Cleaning Checklist for Families in Fleet
Move over spring cleaning — it’s time for a summer special!
Despite the typically wet British weather, we’re all keen to spend more time in nature and bring the outside in during summer. But as wonderful as this can be, it can often be difficult to maintain a clean home throughout these busy months.
This season presents different cleaning challenges compared to the rest of the year. So, how can you ensure your house is always spotless and ready for guests?
Our house cleaners in Fleet have shared a home cleaning checklist of maintenance tasks many people forget about…
Deep-clean your toilet
Throwing a summertime shindig? Kids having their friends around? Or just in the mood to make your bathroom sparkle in the sunshine? Now’s a great time to give your toilet a good scrub!
That includes wiping down its hinges and flush, as well as using a pumice stone to get rid of unsightly stains and mopping the nearby floor to ensure no nasty bacteria is lingering.
Wash your shower curtain
Shower curtains can be breeding grounds for mould and mildew — especially when the weather gets warm and humid. So, take this as your sign to put yours through the wash according to its care instructions.
And why not throw in your bathmat whilst you’re at it? Both will dry off in the sunshine in no time, leaving your bathroom smelling extra fresh.
Top tip from our house cleaners in Fleet: spray your shower curtain and liner with some distilled white vinegar to prevent mould growth.
Clear out your fruit bowl
Fresh fruit and vegetables will ripen and go off much quicker in warm weather. So, try storing your ingredients in a cool, dry place and make sure you’re regularly removing old produce from your bowl to prevent a swarm of fruit flies.
If you do get these pesky bugs in your home, try leaving out a small container filled with apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap to catch them. Our Fleet home cleaning experts say it works a treat!
Clean the kitchen bins
You may have to discard waste more frequently in hot, moist conditions to avoid rotting food causing bad smells and attracting insects.
No one wants to find maggots in their kitchen. So, ensure you don’t leave rubbish sitting in the can for too long and clean your bins using bleach and water every time you take bags out.
Empty your fridge and freezer
You can make quick work of a fridge and freezer refresh in the summer months to make room for all your BBQ leftovers and ice lollies.
Get rid of anything that’s been in the fridge for too long and toss anything in your freezer that’s been in there for over six months. This is also a good time to defrost your freezer, as the warmer weather will make quick work of the ice in there!
Disinfect your drains
Next up on our home cleaning checklist: drains.
Pour some boiling water down them and follow it with some trusty baking soda and white vinegar before flushing it all through with more boiling water. That way, you’ll keep your pipes free of mould and bacteria that can cause unpleasant odours.
Give your plants a dust
Did you know your plants need dusting? Even a thin layer can prevent leaves from absorbing sunlight properly, leading to decreased photosynthesis. So, make sure you give your shrubbery some love this summer to have a thriving indoor jungle.
And remember, your plants might need extra watering when the weather is hot. Check how best to care for them throughout the year!
Spruce up your outside areas
You’ll probably be spending more time than usual in the garden, so why not make it look spick and span?
Clean outdoor furniture, scrub the grill in preparation for your next BBQ and power wash your patio to get rid of all the dirt and grime that’s built up over the autumn and winter. You’ll have a space you’ll be proud to show off in no time!
