Kitchen Cleaning: Oven-Cleaning Hacks for Homes in Winchester

No one likes cleaning their oven. Well, unless you’re part of our Winchester home cleaning team, of course…

Fortunately, our experts are always here to share their top tips for kitchen cleaning. Try out the techniques below to make swift work of your oven — even if it’s your first time giving it some proper TLC.

Method 1: baking soda

We know, we know — we’re starting to sound like a bit of a broken record with this one. But baking soda really is a cost-effective magic ingredient, especially for kitchen cleaning tasks.

Make a paste using a few tablespoons of baking soda and water, adding a little liquid at a time until you get your desired consistency. You can also add a few drops of dish soap for extra soapiness. Then, apply the mixture to all your oven racks and interiors. Let it sit for about 15–30 minutes and then scrub it away with a soft sponge or cloth.

Method 2: dishwasher tablet

Want something quick and convenient to clean your oven? Try dissolving a dishwasher tablet in some water. Mix it into a paste (a bit like you would do for the baking soda hack), then apply it to your oven racks.

Again, leave the paste to sit for at least 15 minutes and then wipe it away. For really stubborn grease, you can even combine methods one and two — adding a little baking soda to your tablet mix for extra scrubbing power.

Method 3: white vinegar steam

Steam is an effective yet gentle solution for a number of kitchen cleaning tasks, including oven doors. Combined with white vinegar, it’ll make light work of the stained glass.

Pour a cup of white vinegar into an oven-proof bowl and place it in the middle of your oven on the bottom rack. Set your oven to a low temperature (about 120°C should do the trick) and leave it on for half an hour. Don’t open the door. Then, when the oven has cooled, you should be able to wipe your oven door and interiors clean using a microfibre cloth.

Method 4: lemon juice

Not only is lemon juice great for disinfecting, but it also leaves behind a lovely citrus smell — without chemicals!

Create a solution of equal parts lemon juice and water and add it to a spray bottle. Spray your entire oven with this mixture and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping it away. You could also add your leftover lemon pieces to your bowl of water from the steaming method to cut through more grease.
