Haus Maids Ware: How to Remove Any Stain from a Carpet

Our carpets take a lot of abuse over the years. From drink spills to grass stains, it doesn’t take much before your floors are littered with unsightly marks. The question is, how do you remove any stain from your carpet at home?

The faster you act, the easier it will be. Just follow the steps recommended by our house cleaners in Ware below to tackle stains in no time.

Step 1: Get rid of the excess

Scoop it, scrape it — just do whatever you can to lift whatever it is that you’ve dropped on your carpet. Make sure you don’t rub it in more, though; this will only make the stain worse.

Then, you can start to blot with a dry, clean towel or tissue. Keep going until you can no longer pick up any more colour or moisture.

Step 2: Apply Your Carpet Cleaner

Before you do this, make sure you’ve looked up what cleaning agents work best to remove any stain you have. For example, enzyme-based cleaners work well for blood and food stains. Tannin stains (wine, coffee or tea) will need a more acidic stain remover.

If you can, find out what type of carpet fibres you have — natural or synthetic? This might determine the products and techniques you use. Steam is best for natural fibres, whilst synthetic carpets can usually take a bit of bleach.

Step 3: Blot, blot, blot!

Using another clean cloth or paper towel, blot away the stain remover after it’s sat for a long enough time. Our Ware home cleaning experts say you should always use a white or colourless cloth to ensure no excess colours bleed into your carpet.

They also recommend blotting with cold water and then drying with a towel before repeating.

Step 4: Vacuum and finish

Give your carpet a vacuum to restore its fluffiness. You could even sprinkle some baking soda on the area before doing so to get rid of any lingering odours.

And just like that, you’re done! Your carpet should now be free from stains like nothing ever happened.
