How to Clean a Toilet | A Guide by Haus Maids Horsham
When was the last time you properly cleaned your toilet? We’re talking about a thorough deep clean, not just a quick whiz around with a toilet brush.
If it’s been a while, it’s a job that should be at the top of your next chores list. Dirty toilets are a breeding ground for bacteria that can quickly spread around your bathroom if you don’t keep it in check.
With that in mind, our house cleaners in Horsham have shared a step-by-step guide on how to clean a toilet like a pro. Follow this process to keep your toilet clean and working efficiently!
Step 1: Start with a flush
First, you’ll need to make sure there’s nothing lingering at the bottom of your toilet. To do this, simply use your toilet brush to give the bowl a quick scrub, shut the lid and run a short flush cycle. Doing so will also remove excess water, helping your toilet cleaner stay concentrated.
Speaking of toilet cleaners…
Step 2: Use a toilet bowl cleaner
Apply your preferred toilet bowl cleaner, starting as close to the rim as possible to coat the entire surface. You can then leave it to work its magic for as long as recommended by the product manufacturer.
Once that time has passed, use your toilet brush or rubber gloves and a sponge to scrub away stains. Concentrate on the water jets and drain holes in your toilet, as these can get clogged up with limescale. After you’ve removed any lingering stains, close the lid and flush once again.
Step 3: Scrub the seat and base
Next, you’re ready to clean the rest of your toilet, starting with the seat. Lift it and spray all sides with a disinfectant, then wipe it away. Remember to use clean water and a cloth to get rid of any chemicals left on the seat’s surface.
You can then use the same cleaning product to clean the rest of your toilet unit, working from the top down. Always do this before you clean the floors in your toilet or bathroom for the most efficient process.
Step 4: Disinfect the toilet brush
Your toilet is now as good as new, but what about your toilet brush? You need to ensure it’s as hygienic as possible if you’re going to keep using it between deep cleans.
An easy way to do this is with vinegar. Rinse the brush in the water that comes out of your toilet when you flush, then pin it between the seat and bowl, so it hangs over it. Then, spray all sides of the brush with pure white vinegar and let it dry. Meanwhile, you can use the remaining vinegar to spray and wipe down the brush holder.
So, now you know how to clean a toilet properly. Still, that doesn’t mean it’s something you’ll be racing to do in your next spare moment.
