Haus Maids Godalming: 5 Tips for Keeping a Clean Bathroom
Keeping a clean bathroom is one of the chores everyone hates doing. It’s time-consuming, hard work and most of all, not very pleasant!
But the longer you leave it, the worse the job becomes. That’s why we’re here to give you the advice you need to make light work of bathroom cleaning every week.
In this article, our house cleaners in Godalming share five top tips for maintaining a spotless and hygienic bathroom. Let’s dive in…
1. Stock up on the right tools
No one wants to tackle a toilet or shower basin without the appropriate gear. Make your life easier by keeping all your cleaning products and tools within reach. That way, you’ll have no excuses if you spot a dirty mirror, empty toilet roll holder or dusty surface on your next bathroom trip.
Wondering what to buy? At the very least, make sure you have the following:
- Toilet brush
- Microfibre cloths
- Gloves
- Dustpan and brush
- Antibacterial spray
- Glass cleaner
- Toilet bleach
- Bin liners
2. Keep a squeegee in the shower
Shower doors are one of the first things to attract mould and water spots, impacting the overall appearance of the space. If you want to keep a clean bathroom, we recommend hanging a squeegee in the shower so you can wipe the glass and tiles after every use.
You could also use a no-scrub daily shower spray to prevent scum from forming. You can make this at home — just take a cup of white vinegar, a cup of water, and a tablespoon of washing-up liquid and pour it into a spray bottle. Shake before use and add a few drops of essential oil to give it a fresh scent.
3. Clear and wipe surfaces daily
It’s amazing how quickly bathrooms get cluttered. When you’ve got a whole family of people sharing a space and getting ready before rushing out the door, your surfaces will get crowded in no time.
Not only does this look messy, but it also makes it more difficult to clean. With that in mind, our Godalming home cleaning experts suggest making the effort to put things in their place after every use — or at least at the start and end of every day. Give your counters and faucets a wipe whilst you’re at it to maintain a clean bathroom.
4. Empty your rubbish bin regularly
We get it: taking out your bathroom waste is never a fun task. However, leaving your rubbish to fester for long periods will only make it worse, creating bad odours and even possible health hazards.
Depending on how often you use the bin and what you’re putting in there, make it part of your routine to empty and clear away your bathroom waste every week at the very least. You should also rinse and bleach your bin to get rid of any lingering germs and bad smells, especially during the warmer months.
5. Tackle limescale little and often
Limescale is one of the biggest challenges you’ll face when you’re trying to keep a clean bathroom. Getting rid of it takes a little elbow grease and know-how. But if you stay on top of it, you’ll prevent it from becoming a huge chore or something that damages your bathroom fixtures.
Want a DIY solution for removing stubborn limescale spots? Soak a paper towel in white vinegar or lemon juice and leave it to sit for a couple of hours. Then, lift the towel and use warm, soapy water to wash away the limescale before drying the area with a dry cloth.
